When Angel and Tess get married they leave the dairy farm and move into their own house. While in their house on one of the first nights Angel relieves a secret to Tess. Tess decides to tell him the whole truth about her true husband and child. Because of this, Angel gets upset and wants to leave Tess. They decide to go their separate ways and Tess returns home. After only a short time at home she leaves once again in search of work. After a long search she finally finds work on a farm. This is by far the worst job shes ever had. While working on this farm she is reunited with Alec. Alec is still in love with Tess and attempts to regain her trust and marry her. Still, Tess’s feelings are not mutual and doesn’t want anything to do with Alec. But he is relentless and continues to beg Tess to be his wife. She writes letters to Angle and asks for him to forgive her and take her back. She never receives a response. Because Tess looses all hope in Angel, she marries Alec. Alec and Tess move to a large state. Years later, Angel returns in search of Tess to find she is with Alec. He explains that he hasn't come back sooner because he was far away and ill. Tess makes the hesitant decision to return to Angel but the only way to do that is to kill Alec. Once Alec is dead, Tess and Angel run away and are only together for one short night before guards find them and take her away. Tess is later hanged in a local village for murder. Angel returns to his home and family. The end.
This novel was filled with drama and suspense. It kept the reader engaged and interested. There was some difficult language but was easily understood. I recommend this book to anyone who likes romantic stories and drama. Over all I really enjoyed this independent read.
