Plot Summary: Emma Woodhouse is a rich girl who gets everything she wants. She lives with her aging father in a gorgeous house in Highbury. Emma introduces her instructor to Mr. Weston and they got married. Mr. Woodhouse is not happy about this arrangement but he deals with it. We get introduced to Mr. knightly. Mr. Knightly’s brother married Emmas sister. When he comes to visit he bursts Emmas bubble by saying Mr. Weston found Mrs. Weston without her help. Mr Churchill, Mr. Weston’s son. He is his son from his previous marriage so they rarely see eachother. At one of Mr. Woodhouse’s parties we meet Harriet Smith. Emma decides Harriet will be her “new project”. Emma wants to use her match-making skills to fins Harriet a husband. Emma convinces Harriet to dump Mr. Martin a farmer that likes her and Emma sets her sight on Mr. Elton the town’s clergyman. He is very smart and handsom. But Mr. Knightly is convinsed that Harriet is bad for Emma, because he says she never finishes anything she starts. Mr. Weston tells Mr. Knightly that he hopes Frank will come into town and marry her. Emma’s plan for setting up Mr. Elton and Harriet and she gets them talking about all of Emma’s crazy paintings. (This is as far as I got.) I think the main theme in Emma so far is Love. There is a lot of love going on in this novel. Like Emma trying to set up Harriet and Mr. Elton, and Mr. Weston introduced him to Mrs. Weston.
