One element of fiction in my novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, is characterization. The main character, Jose Arcadio Buendia founded the village of Macondo. WhenJose Arcadio Buendia first founded the village he was very social and helped the community with theirhouses, work, and animals, then he becomes fascinated with the wonders of the world, especially
alchemy. For a period of time the people of the village consider him to be crazy because he spends dayand night in the solitude of his laboratory. His madness stops, but he still wants to invent things in orderto improve Macondo and the lives of its people. Ursula Iguaran, his wife, is a very active, hard worker,who doesn’t stand for her husband’s silly ideas. To gether they have three children, two boys and onegirl. The eldest son, Jose Aracadio, is physically like his father, but he lacks his father’s imaginationand curiosity. Aureliano the second son is quiet and his phenomenon’s always come true.
