Girl Interrupted

I am reading the biography of Susanna Kaysen.  This memoir is called “Girl Interrupted” and was written in 1993.  Susanna Kaysen was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1948.  Susanna Kaysen was eighteen years old when she attempted to commit suicide by consuming fifty aspirins in one day, in 1967.  Shortly after this event occurred she was admitted into McLean hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts.  McLean is a psychiatric facility.  During her stay Susanna was treated for depression..  While she was there she met and hung around with many different people that were at the hospital.  They included Lisa, Lisa Cody, Polly, Cynthia, and Georgina.  They each had their own reason for why they were admitted into McLean.  Polly attempted to commit suicide by lighting herself on fire, as a result she has major body scaring.  Lisa is a sociopath, and tries to escape from the hospital periodically.  The longest she is gone for is about two days at a time.  Susanna has a boyfriend, but becomes upset when he never visits. Apparently her boyfriend's mother was admitted into the facility when he was a child.  This was too much for him to handle when he was younger, and he wasn’t capable of dealing with someone else he cared about being in McLean.  Susanna was told that she was only going to be in McLean for a few weeks, but her stay lasted much longer than that.  This is what I've learned from the story so far.
