Gustave Flaubert

I am reading Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. He was born on December 12, 1821 in Rouen. He wrote Madame Bovary in 1856. He also wrote several other novels including La Tentation, Salammbo, L’Education Sentimentale, Trois Contes and others. He sometimes writes stories that have something to do with events in his life or his surroundings. He died on May 8, 1880 because of a stroke at Croisset.
So far in the novel there is a character named Charles and he is a doctor. He got married to a woman named Heloise who didn’t love him much and she was very bossy. She was years older than him and a wealthy widow. One day he got called to a house in the country to fix a man’s broken leg (his name is Roault) and he starts liking the man’s daughter, Emma. He kept visiting the family, too often and Heloise got suspicious and made him promise never to go there again. He promised but soon he found out that Heloise’s lawyer had taken all her money and she lied about the money before the wedding. Charles’s family got angry and a week later Heloise died from shock. Charles started becoming good friends with Roualt and he got remarried to Emma. Emma talked to him about how she didn’t like the country but Charles seemed to be more interested in her beauty. After the wedding Charles took Emma home and she tried to improve her new home. She feels that she isn’t really in love and that it doesn’t seem like it did in the Romance novels that she read.
