Gabriel Jose Garcia Marquez was born on March 6,1928,in Aracataca, a town near Northern Colombia. He is a Colombian short-story teller, screenwriter, and journalist. He is best known for his novel, 100 Years of Solitude (1967), and Love in the Time of Cholera (1985). In 1982 he was awarded the Noble Prize of Literature. He married Mercedes Barcha in 1958, and a year later they had their first son, Rodrigo Garcia. In 1961,the family traveled by Greyhound bus throughout southern United States and eventually settled down in Mexico City. His novel a 100 Years of Solitude was widely populated and led to Garcia’s Romulo Gallegos Prize in 1972. In 1999 Garcia Marquez was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer. Chemotherapy provided by a hospital in Los Angeles proved to be successful and the illness went into remission. In June 1967 over 8000 copies of 100 Years of Solitude had been sold out. His novels are now translated internationally.

ReplyDeleteyes i would deffinetly recommend others to read this novel because it's something different...the novel is very well written and has a very interesting plot even though sometimes you can get the characters messed up
