The Count of Monte Cristo was written by Alexandre Dumas. Alexandre Dumas pere was born on July 24, 1802 just outside of Paris, France and died in Pyus, France on December 5, 1870. His grandmother was a black slave, however this did not cause much trouble in his career. He grew up with his family in France. After his dad died in 1806 when he was only 4 years old, his family became very poor and life was hard. Dumas never had the opportunity to attend a college. When he grew up, he worked as a famous writer for magazines, plays, and novels as well as a historian. He also worked in the National Guard for some time. He married Ida Ferrier in 1884, however he continued to see other women. Because of his multiple partners, supposedly he was father to over 500 children.
Dumas started his writing career by writing magazine articles and plays. After being successful with writing plays and articles, he began to write novels. The novel he is best known for writing is The Three Musketeers, which was published in 1844. Dumas’s books were very popular when written and he became very famous. He was also well known for his exciting, action packed work that many authors cannot produce. He is also now known as one of the most talented writers of the 19th century.
