The author of the book I am reading called In Country is Bobbie Ann Mason. Growing up in Mayfield Kentucky in 1940 Bobbie Ann Mason loved books so her parents made sure there were always enough around for her to read. She grew up on a dairy farm with brother and sister and worked hard in the field.
In 1970 while she was teaching journalism at Mansfield State College in Pennsylvania, She started to write some short stories showing her observations of life. Some short stories she wrote included Shiloh and Other Stories which won several rewards in 1983 to Midnight Magic: Selected Stories of Bobbie Ann Mason.
In Country, a novel about a 17 year old girl who wants to find out more about how her father died in the Vietnam War, was Bobbie Ann Mason's first novel written in 1985. She went on to write more novels and people say she is one of the countries leading fiction writers.
